HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - The Christmas season is full of indulgences when it comes to food, making it difficult for dieters to stay on track.
A representative from a non-profit weight loss organization called TOPS, which stands for Take Off Pounds Sensibly said it's ok to indulge a little bit but don't over do it. Ann Hamilton is a Central Mississippi TOPS Captain.
Hamilton said other sound advice includes setting limits for seasonal goodies and sticking to them. Using a smaller plate for feasts can help as can some exercise before and after a holiday. Finally, Hamilton said folks on a diet should send any leftovers home with guests to avoid temptation.
These tips are important because obesity can have negative consequences for your health and other parts of your life.
"But it also effects your self esteem and we always want to feel good about ourselves and when we look good, we feel good about ourselves," said Hamilton.
