Sheriff's officials say James Thornhill, 72, turned himself in Tuesday and was released on his own recognizance. Laurel businessman and former firefighter Ken Keys opened his mayoral campaign office on Wednesday.
Times are still tough for a lot of people. Unemployment remains just under 10% across the nation. That means it is worse than that in some place…not quite as bad in others.
Alarmingly, right here at home…donations to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program are down. 500 "Angels" have still not been adopted and—as we've been announcing on Seven on Your Side News—today is the last day to adopt a child.
Turtle Creek Mall in Hattiesburg is taking adoptions until the close at 10 PM. After today, donations of clothing and toys can still be made at the main local office of the Salvation Army on Highway 49. The Salvation Army along with Christian Services and other community organizations throughout our area are set up to help those who are less fortunate. This year the need is especially great.
We speak often of the charitable spirit displayed in Mississippi—despite the fact that our state is one of the poorest. We urge you to dig extra deep this Christmas Season. And, in turn, may you also be richly blessed.
