HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Downtown Hattiesburg merchants are drawing Christmas shoppers to their businesses with specialty items and personalized customer service.

Many shops in the downtown area offer hand crafted items by local artists. The Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association hopes holiday shoppers will visit the region when picking out gifts for loved ones.

On December eleventh, the Downtown Association is hosting a holiday art walk from four to nine PM that will feature Christmas carols and other special features in downtown shops. Betsy Rowell is the Executive Director of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association.

According to Rowell, "In addition to the great shops and galleries that we have and the wonderful restaurants, we are in a unique setting. We have wonderful architecture for people to enjoy so it's like no other place on earth."

Rowell said folks will also be able to participate in the Victorian Candle Lit Christmas this weekend on December eleventh and twelfth from five to nine PM.

That event will include horse drawn carriage rides and an opportunity to see several downtown homes decorated for Christmas.
