HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - A Southern Miss freshman is recovering from his injuries after being involved with an altercation that sent him to the hospital this weekend.

The University's Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Joe Paul, said Stuart Ramsey, who is a student from Jackson, MS., was the victim of a beating that left injuries requiring hospital attention.

The altercation happened at 11:00 Saturday night in an area between two fraternity houses on the Southern Miss campus.

Ramsey was released from the hospital on Sunday morning and returned to the campus on Monday to assist university police with their investigation.

Paul said this incident is being thoroughly investigated by the Southern Miss Police Department. Police are taking the situation seriously and have been interviewing people of interest.

However, no arrests have been made. Ramsey plans to return to the Southern Miss campus next semester.
