Traffic signal turned down by MDOT as casino nears opening

SANDERSVILLE, Miss. (AP) - State transportation officials have turned down a request to put a traffic signal in Sandersville to help with anticipated high volumes of traffic when the Bok Homa Casino opens Dec. 20.

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials told Mayor Walter Jack in a meeting this week that the signal wasn't supported by traffic data. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and city officials had asked MDOT to put a signal at the intersection of U.S. Highway 11 and Main Street.

Jack says the casino will bring a substantial increase in the number of motorists traveling on the main road through the area.
