HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - USM president Martha Saunders and William Carey University president Tommy King were honored with the prestigious Hub Award for 2010 Tuesday night during a black tie dinner and program at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
Each year the honor is bestowed on people who exemplify outstanding contributions to the community, commitment to excellence, and dedication to public service.
The Hub Award was established in 1979 when community leaders honored Bobby Chain who at the time was president of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of higher learning.
Proceeds from the Hub Awards dinner are used to establish a scholarship in the name of recipients at the institution of their choice. Since 1979 over $500,000 have been raised in scholarship money, helping over 400 students.
