LAUREL/HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Staff and volunteers with the Salvation Army in Laurel shared a Thanksgiving meal with people from the community. An estimated 200 people ate turkey and all the trimmings at the Salvation Army headquarters.
More than a dozen volunteers cooked and served the meals to anybody who wanted a plate.
The organization was prepared to serve up to 300 meals today.
And for the first time, the Hattiesburg Salvation Army hosted an afternoon Thanksgiving dinner for needy folks.
A small gathering of people shared a traditional holiday meal at the Salvation Army shelter.
The menu included turkey, ham and cranberry sauce.
Volunteers prepared enough food for about 50 people.
