Salvation Army serves holiday meals

LAUREL/HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Staff and volunteers with the Salvation Army in Laurel shared a Thanksgiving meal with people from the community. An estimated 200 people ate turkey and all the trimmings at the Salvation Army headquarters.

More than a dozen volunteers cooked and served the meals to anybody who wanted a plate.

The organization was prepared to serve up to 300 meals today.

And for the first time, the Hattiesburg Salvation Army hosted an afternoon Thanksgiving dinner for needy folks.

A small gathering of people shared a traditional holiday meal at the Salvation Army shelter.

The menu included turkey, ham and cranberry sauce.

Volunteers prepared enough food for about 50 people.
