HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Firefighter Steven Lansdale and Engineer Jimmie Harrell are two members of the Hattiesburg Fire Department's Combat Challenge team.

In November, they were one of 64 international teams that participated in the World Fire Fighter Combat Challenge competition in South Carolina.

"It was a great time, all the different firemen in all the different fire departments that we got to compete against. It was always good camaraderie with all the firemen in the competition and the level of competitiveness, it was a lot of fun," said Lansdale.

This was the first year a team from the Hattiesburg Fire Department took part in the world competition after qualifying for it in the nationals that were held in Jackson, Mississippi.

According to Jimmie Harrell the competition demanded, "Hard work and dedication, I mean we worked hard at it the last two months before entering the world competition, we trained very hard."

Both Harrell and Lansdale said they plan to continue their training exercises and compete again next year. They also want to thank the citizens of Hattiesburg for helping them raise funds to participate in the Combat Challenge.
