HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The USM Pride of Mississippi marching band is on their way to New York City to march in the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The "Pride" used half time Saturday night at The Rock for their final tune up before boarding busses early Sunday morning for the long trip to New York City.
The band has been preparing for the trip for over a year and has been practicing parade formations, music, and drill since August.
The "Pride" will perform a lively and energetic program called "Let's Get Happy" including songs Get Happy and Somewhere over the Rainbow.
"We are very excited," said Kevin Shira, Drum Major for the Pride. "It's going to an awesome trip. We have been preparing for this for over a year and I can't believe the week is finally here."
While in New York the band will have the opportunity to take in several land marks to include the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and Central Park.
The parade will air live on WDAM TV beginning at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, November 25th.
