USM fans sign get well wishes for injured students

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - USM fans are showing their support for three football players who were shot outside a local nightclub last weekend. Saturday, Golden Eagles supporters lined up at the campus Barnes and Noble bookstore before the Southern Miss-Houston football game to sign get well wishes for Martez Smith, Deddrick Jones and Tim Green.

All three received gunshot wounds at the Remington's Hunt Club last Sunday morning.

Several people have been arrested in connection with the shootings, including 29-year-Travis Brown, who was arrested in Hattiesburg Friday night. Police believe he was the man who shot the students.

At the bookstore, cash donations were accepted and t-shirts were sold to help offset the cost of the students' medical bills.

The get well wishes will be transcribed to a web scrapbook, which will be put online next week.
