HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A former Cable News Network reporter and Bay St. Louis native who's written a book about Hurricane Katrina was at Southern Miss Thursday evening signing copies of that book. Kathleen Koch was at Barnes and Noble to autograph copies of Rising from Katrina: How My Mississippi Hometown Lost it All and Found What Mattered.
Koch, a Southern Miss graduate, covered the aftermath of Katrina on the Gulf Coast and hosted two CNN documentaries on the storm.
"Disasters reveal people's true nature, for better or for worse, and what I saw here in Mississippi was just the best and that was one reason I wanted to write the book, because I was so proud of how Mississippians conducted themselves, how they helped one another, how they took care of each other," Koch said.
Her book was published on August 1.
