HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - One Hattiesburg official is defending the city's decision to close Remington's Hunt Club following the shooting of three University of Southern Mississippi football players in the parking lot of the business.

In a non-scientific WDAM online poll Wednesday night, 68 percent of nearly 1,700 voters said pulling the club's license was a mistake.

Council President Kim Bradley said Thursday it was not a knee-jerk reaction. He said the club has been a trouble spot for more than a year, and the owners have been warned but took no action to improve safety.

Bradley says the shooting of the football players was merely the "last straw."
