COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Covington County Sheriff's Department received some unexpected money on Wednesday morning from the state auditors office.

State Auditor Stacy Pickering gave Sheriff Ben Ford a $25,000 check recovered from the bond of Winnie Hathorne.

Hathorne is a former bookkeeper for the sheriff's office who plead guilty to embezzling over $77,000 from the sheriff's office between January 2008 and April 2009.

Pickering said he is excited about returning this money back to taxpayers.
