HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Members of a Hattiesburg congregation were in Chancery Court Monday for a hearing to remove the church's Pastor.

However, the court proceeding will be rescheduled because the Reverend of Friendship Baptist Church, Gerry James, wasn't given the required seven days notification prior to the hearing.

An attorney for the faction that wants the Reverend removed said the purpose of the court date was to obtain a restraining order to remove James from his position.

However, supporters of James say those who want him removed represent only a small portion of the congregation.

According to earlier WDAM-TV reports, some people want James removed because he was arrested in July on multiple charges including a DUI, traffic violations, and marijuana possession. Additionally, the church's new building hasn't been completed yet.
