LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Citizens in Laurel were out in support of our veterans during their annual Veteran's Day Ceremony.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Veterans Memorial Museum to salute war veterans, both living and deceased.

Students from Northeast Jones and Sylvia Bay Academy in Bay Springs were a part of today's program.

Event organizers said getting children involved is important because they must learn the importance of our veterans.

Museum Director, Jimmy Bass said "We need to honor our veterans everyday. Not just one day. There are guys over there getting killed to preserve our freedom and we don't need to just thank them one day a year and forget them. It is our duty to say with them year round."

Veteran Doyle Wheat said "You are not here because of a politician, you are here because of a veteran. Veterans saved America, they saved us from Europe, Japan, and the Pacific. So, thank a veteran. Thank a veteran if you want to thank somebody."

West Jones High School gave the museum a donation to show appreciation to our veterans.
