Palazzo celebrates Marines birthday in Hub City

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Mississippi's newly-elected 4th District congressman helped fellow Marine Corps veterans in Hattiesburg celebrate a special birthday for the Marines Wednesday night. Representative-elect Steven Palazzo joined members of the Marine Corps League at a dinner at Southern Oaks celebrating the Marine Corps' 235th anniversary.

Palazzo, who was in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for 8 years, defeated long-time Democrat congressman Gene Taylor in last week's general election. He says he's ready to go to work in Washington.

"When we get in there in January, we're going to repeal the healthcare bill, we're going to make the tax cuts permanent and we're going to promote a business climate in America that's good for small businesses, good for struggling middle-class families, good for job creation, that's what we're going to focus on," Palazzo said.

Palazzo is also a member of the Mississippi National Guard.
