HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - A William Carey history professor is challenging the university's campus to participate in Operation Christmas Child.
Jonathan Brooke is organizing the program at Carey, which sends shoe boxes full of goodies to needy children all over the world in time for Christmas. Operation Christmas Child is a program of Samaritan's Purse, an organization based in North Carolina.
William Carey students hope to send one hundred boxes to the program on behalf of the university. The boxes can be for children up to fourteen years old and gifts are specified according to gender.
Brooke said he hoped to have all the boxes and their contents organized shortly so they can be processed at a local church.
