Devon and Wade Bill ready for Legislature

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A bill to require fencing and other safety measures at oil and gas well storage sites in Mississippi is ready to be introduced in the next legislative session. A draft of the "Devon and Wade Bill," sponsored by Hattiesburg senator Billy Hudson, has been completed and is ready to be pre-filed.

The bill is named in honor of Devon Byrd and Wade White, 2 teenagers who were killed one year ago in south Forrest County when an oil storage tank exploded. The bill would require fencing, warning signs and a gate at certain storage sites.

Senator Hudson has already shown the bill to Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, in hopes of getting his support for it.
