FORREST COUNTY, MS. (WDAM) - The third Battalion, 346th Infantry Regiment at Camp Shelby is a unique multi component group. It includes two hundred fifteen people from the National Guard, reserve soldiers and those on active duty. Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Scotto is the battalion's commander.

According to Scotto, "A good portion of the unit has been mobilized since 2003 and have been away from their homes. While we often talk about the soldiers who are deploying for a year or 18 months overseas, sometimes we don't talk about the soldiers who are remaining at mobilization stations or who have other critical jobs in the United States, who are not at home, they've been away from their homes as well."

That is the case with this battalion. Scotto said their mission is coming to an end in December with the unit entering a new phase. To observe what these soldiers have been through and celebrate the holidays one more time as a team, Temple Baptist west is hosting a get together on Saturday, November sixth.

Major Ken Nance is a member of the church and has lived in Hattiesburg for the last five years. He is also part of the 346th Infantry Regiment.

"Which will allow the family members and the military personnel both present and past to be able to come to that facility and celebrate this time with us," said Nance.
