Write in candidate totals are in for chancery judge race

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Forrest County officials have finished counting the write-in ballots for chancery judge District 10 Place 1 formerly held by the late James H.C. Thomas. 

Thomas received the majority of the votes in the election, which means Gov. Haley Barbour will appoint a person to fill the position.

According to tabulations, Thomas won Forrest county with 7,200 votes. Here is a breakdown of the other candidates: 

  • Michael Barefield - 244
  • Leigh Berry - 32
  • Carol Ann Bustin - 331
  • Ronald Doleac  - 1,706
  • Deborah Gambrell  - 3,607
  • Alexander Ignatiev - 65
  • Maura McLaughlin - 87
  • Chad Shook - 177
  • Shelia Smallwood - 1,673
  • Nance Fitzpatrick Stokes - 14
  • James H.C. Thomas - 7,200 

Again, these totals just include Forrest County. In all five contested counties, Thomas received over 28,000 votes to 20,475 for all write-in candidates.
