Hospitality students learn from hotel executive

HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - At Southern Miss Thursday, an accomplished hotel executive spoke about the qualities students need to succeed in the hospitality field.

Angela Brav is the Chief Operating Officer for InterContinental Hotels Group. That company is the largest hotel operator in the country and includes brands like the Holiday Inn.

Brav said students need to be passionate about the work they do since they'll likely spend fifty to sixty years of their life working.

"And the thing that I want students to know and actually that I want anyone to know is that I think most glass ceilings are set by the individual themselves. And just working hard and loving what you do and knowing that you are going to get to the top, believing you are going to get to the top will get you there and I really believe that," said Brav.

Currently, Brav said there are many career opportunities for students with her company since they plan to open about 180 hotels this year alone in the Americas region.
