Gulf Coast promotion offers gift cards for visitors

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - If you frequent the Gulf Coast you could earn your share of $750,000.

It's all part of a new promotion called "Wish You Were Here" conducted by the Gulf Coast Tourism Steering Committee. 

To take part, one must first register online at www.visitmscoat.org and receive a reservation code which can be used to purchase a two-night stay at participating hotels.

Upon check-in participants receive a $100 Mastercard wish card to spend during their stay on the Gulf Coast.

The advertising campaign is funded by millions of dollars from BP to mitigate the oil disaster's impact on the tourism industry.

    A man jumping in to help a Lumberton Police Officer ended up with an injury of his own Monday. Lumberton Police Chief Carlus Page said an officer was dispatched in reference to a domestic incident just before 10 a.m. on Southern Street when the suspect, identified as Jeameal Taylor, starting running. Page said Taylor had knowledge he was wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections and "immediately took off running." A civilian, Joshua Root, saw the chase and assis...
