HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Hattiesburg's annual Tourism Summit Wednesday featured the insight of a top hotel executive, who stressed the importance of branding and guest services during this economic downturn.
The summit at the Lake Terrace Convention Center stresses the accomplishments made over the last year by the tourism organization, Visit Hattiesburg.
Representatives from state government and the hospitality industry heard an address by Angela Brav, the Chief Operating Officer for InterContinental Hotels Group.
That company is the largest hotel operator in the country and includes brands like the Holiday Inn. Brav also spoke about the oil spill and it's impact on the Gulf Coast hotel industry.
Brav said, "The majority of leisure travel is done online so what are we doing in this state, city and at the local levels to let people know that things are fine and that we want them to come back and are ready for them to come back. So not only communication, but how we are communicating and what medium we are using in communicating to them."
Brav said she was impressed with the Lake Terrace Convention Center and the professionalism of it's employees.
