Governor lifts statewide burn ban, but some county bans continue

JACKSON, (WDAM) – Gov. Haley Barbour today announced the lifting of the statewide outdoor burn ban.

Gov. Barbour declared State of Emergency Oct. 6 banning all outdoor burning because of extremely dry conditions.

Officials of the Mississippi Forestry Commission recommended lifting of the statewide ban. However, 17 counties remain under local burn bans.

As of 3:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Forrest, Lamar and Smith counties are the only counties in the WDAM viewing area still imposing a local burn ban.
