Hattiesburg, MS (WDAM) -  Not guilty said jurors in the Federal case against Lee Lambert.

The former Greene County Supervisor was charged with bribery, conspiracy, and two counts of income tax evasion. Prosecutors accused Lambert of receiving kickbacks from Mid South Pipe Company in exchange for a debris cleanup contract after Katrina.

Lambert 65, was exonerated on all four counts.

Defense  attorney James Dukes Sr. said, the jury was very attentive when listening to  testimony and the evidence or lack there of spoke for itself.

Dukes said, "It is so easy to charge a public official with fraudulent conduct and so many people say, well, he must have done it because he was charged. This case demonstrates  that's not always so, while we have a wonderful government and good representatives of the government  they are not always right."

Ernest Holder, another Greene County Supervisor was convicted of evading federal taxes and was also accused of taking $100,000 in kickbacks from Mid South Pipe Company after Katrina. During his case, the jury could not reach a verdict on charges of bribery, conspiracy and perjury. Holder will be retried on those charges Dec. 7.
