HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A fundraiser was held Sunday evening to raise money for the domestic abuse shelter in Hattiesburg.
The event was called Shelter at the Shed and fittingly enough was held at the recently opened Shed Barbeque restaurant in downtown Hattiesburg .
Money raised will go toward the building of a new shelter facility in the hub city. The current shelter is over 100 years old and does not meet the needs of the people they serve.
"Over crowded, we can't serve our male victims of domestic violence and we have to turn people away for over crowding," said Jerra Runnels, President, Domestic Violence Shelter Board. "We're still able to help them, just can't help them with the shelter."
The organizations two shelters in Hattiesburg and Laurel serve an 11 county area.
