Top Hattiesburg cop arrested in evidence probe

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A high-ranking Hattiesburg police official has been arrested.

Thursday, the District Attorney's Office issued an arrest warrant for Captain Jamie Hooker, the head of the police department's Crime Suppression Team, also known as the Strike Team.

Hattiesburg Police Department Internal Affairs and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents escorted Hooker to his office Thursday to clean out his office.

Hooker is believed to be tied to the recent probe into missing evidence within the department.

Last week, four Hattiesburg police officers within the Strike and NET teams resigned amid an internal investigation into missing evidence. The investigation was turned over to the District Attorney's office this week. Officials said Hooker's arrest stems from that office's handling of the investigation.

Agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations spent most of Thursday looking for Hooker. He turned himself in to the Forrest County Sheriff's Office just after 5:30 p.m..

Hooker is charged with grand larceny, allegedly involving property seized by the Strike Team.
