JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Jones County Fire Council is reminding residents that despite rainfall in some areas overnight Tuesday, the state wide burn ban remains in effect.
Rainfall overnight ranged from nothing at all to an 1/8th of an inch. According to fire coordinator Dan McKenna this did virtually nothing to alleviate the fire danger. He said conditions remain perilously dry and we only have limited chances over the weekend.
In the past ten days Jones County firefighters have responded to over 100 brush fire and burn ban violations.
Residents in violation of the burn ban could be issued a citation that carries a $100 to $500 fine.
The state wide ban will remain in effect as long as dry conditions persist.
