Smash and grab bandits hit again in Laurel

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Another smash and grab has occurred in Laurel.

Friday around 4:30 a.m., a witness was delivering newspapers at Georges Discount Tobacco on South 16th Avenue when he observed two black males loading cartons of cigarettes into a vehicle backed up to the store.

Jacob Henderson, 42, and Calvin Cannady, 29, were arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase.

The suspect vehicle left the scene headed north on 16th Avenue.

The suspect vehicle was spotted by Officer Michael Tolbert.

Investigators said Tolbert attempted to stop the vehicle they refused to stop, and a chase ensued.

The suspect vehicle crashed in Jasper County, and the suspects were taken into custody.

Property taken from the store was recovered.

There were no injuries in the crash.
