HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - When legislators head back to Jackson at the beginning of the year, one local representative says he'll be pushing for downtown Hattiesburg.
Representative Toby Barker says he plans to go after a bill to allow developers to sell historic tax credits. The goal is to increase the rate of downtown development by giving those developers more capital on the front end to get projects moving.
"With the hopes of turning more of our downtown from unused into a part of a thriving commercial district," said Barker.
The credit would also apply for downtown developments across the state. The legislature already established the historic tax credit back in 2006, but so far developers haven't been able to sell those credits.
