HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This weekend is a special one for enthusiastic Southern Miss football fans, who are celebrating not only homecoming, but also the university's 100th anniversary. Today, the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band entertained Golden Eagle fans of all ages at USM's annual homecoming parade.
For the first time in nearly 40 years, the event was held in downtown Hattiesburg. Two former school presidents, Dr. Aubrey Lucas and Dr. Shelby Thames, served as co-grand marshals.
The parade featured many floats, the Dixie Darlings and Seymour, the mascot. The highlight of the day was the gridiron match-up between Southern Miss and East Carolina.
