Lumberton's largest employer to close its doors

Lumberton (WDAM)- Lumberton's largest employer plans to close its doors next year.  Cooper power systems located in the Lumberton industrial park has been making electrical transformers since 1975.

A company news release states... production of single phase, pad mounted transformers will move to other cooper facilities by the third quarter of 2011. The release does not say how many workers will be affected but sources tell us that as many as 150 employees will be out of work.

This is the second major blow for the Lumberton economy in recent weeks. Land O Lakes Purina Feed plant's production and customer service facility..also in the industrial park will cease operations at the end of the month, laying off nearly 20 workers.
