Fifth suspect arrested in connection with murder in Covington County

COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - The Covington County Sheriff's Office and agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation arrested a fifth suspect in the murder of Collins man on Tuesday.

Justin Yawn, 18, of Covington County was charged with accessory after the fact of murder. Yawn's bond was set at $500,000 and he is currently being housed in the Covington County Jail.

Four others are behind bars in Collins charged with a weekend murder in Covington County.

Sheriff Ben Ford said Charles Welch Jr., 37, was shot to death late Saturday at a residence on Barry Lane in Collins.

Phillip Parrett, 23, of Jasper County has been arrested and charged with Welch's murder.

Also arrested were Nona Welch, 29, of Covington County. She is charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Clarence Walters, 18, of Covington County is also charged with conspiracy, and Dennis Seabolt, 22, of Covington County is charged with conspiracy and concealing evidence.

Authorities have not released a motive behind the shooting.
