BROOKHAVEN, MS (AP) - Six inmates who escaped from the Lincoln Sheriff Steve Rushing says the six were arrested Wednesday and were being held in the Jefferson Parish, La., jail.
Rushing tells the Brookhaven Daily Leader that his deputies and the U.S. Marshal's Service apprehended five of the six around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The sixth escaped convict was caught around 9 a.m. at a New Orleans residence.
Details of what led authorities to Louisiana were not immediately available. Rushing says his office will file an extradition request.
The six were identified as Ahmad R. Butler, James R. Durr, Austin R. Hart, Bobby J. Hudson, Justin S. Leake and Chad M. Wallace.
Rushing says Butler is charged with murder in the June 17 killing of 21-year-old Anthony Nichols of McComb. Nichols was shot to death near a convenience store.
Durr is charged with grand larceny of personal property, and Hart is charged with burglary of a motor vehicle. The others face various drug charges. All were awaiting trial.
Rushing says they forced the third story window out, pried the metal grates apart and climbed down using bed sheets tied together as a rope.
