HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Lana Jefcoat of Laurel is $20,000 richer after the lucky number 213 golf ball she purchased for $100 landed in the cup during the Association for the Rights of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities annual golf ball drop. Jefcoat's ball was the only one of the 688 balls purchased to land in the cup.
The golf ball drop is in it's sixth year and was held Monday evening at Canebrake Country Club.
For the second straight year Baptist Life Flight Air Ambulance out of Bobby Chain Airport provided the helicopter and crew for the drop.
ARC was able to raise around $48,000 which will go toward running and making improvements to their facility.
"This year has been very successful. We will only sell, the most we will sell is a thousand balls," said ARC President, Pam Hamilton. So far we have never sold that many. "Right now we're at 688. And we really needed to sell 800, but with this economy 688 is great."
Jefcoat was notified by phone at the conclusion of the event that she had won the money.
