New troops arrive at Shelby for training

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - The first of 2,700 National Guard soldiers from Idaho, Montana and Oregon who are deploying to Iraq have arrived at Camp Shelby for extensive training. Troops from the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team underwent soldier readiness processing at the post today.

They'll be at Camp Shelby for a few weeks before heading to Iraq for several months to participate in Operation New Dawn.

While there, the 116th will take part in convoy and military installation security and provide logistical support for military and civilian-agency delegations.
