Lumberton rape suspect captured

LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - A Lumberton man wanted in connection with the brutal assault and attempted rape of a 52-year-old woman has been captured.

The Lumberton Police Department received an anonymous tip Tuesday from a  viewer who saw the story on WDAM's Midday broadcast and knew the whereabouts of 38-year-old Moody Hendricks.

Hendricks was discovered hiding in a home on Hinton Avenue in Lumberton. Police arrested him, and he is now being held in the Lamar County Jail awaiting his initial appearance.

    A man jumping in to help a Lumberton Police Officer ended up with an injury of his own Monday. Lumberton Police Chief Carlus Page said an officer was dispatched in reference to a domestic incident just before 10 a.m. on Southern Street when the suspect, identified as Jeameal Taylor, starting running.
