Former Hattiesburg police officer indicted on rape charges

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A former Hattiesburg police officer has been indicted on three counts of burglary, sexual battery and rape.

Juan Gray, 38, a former Hattiesburg police detective, was served with an indictment on three counts by Lamar County officials on Friday. 

According to the indictment, Gray allegedly broke into the Lamar County apartment of a 26-year-old female and then sexually attacked and raped the woman. 

Gray has already made his initial court appearance and was ordered released after posting $155,000 bond. 

Hattiesburg police officials swill not comment on when or how Gray left the police department.

    Representatives from NASA visited Hawkins Elementary in Hattiesburg to teach kids how properly view the upcoming solar eclipse.  Nearly 200 Pine Belt kids participating in summer camps saw today's presentation on how to properly view a total solar eclipse by highlighting this summer's 2017 Eclipse Across America experience through the eyes of NASA.
