LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Sales Tax revenue in Laurel has exceeded a hundred thousand dollars this month after experiencing rough times in previous months.
Laurel Mayor Melvin Mack credits the increase to recreation, but says despite the increase the city will not make any adjustments to its 2011 budget.
Mack said "We don't have any surplus and we don't plan to go back and hire anybody back. We don't anticipated on giving any raises right now. And we don't plan on going back and adding travel back in. We need a little cushion either way it goes."
Mayor Mack said he is hopeful the tax revenue in Laurel will remain on the rise throughout the next fiscal period.
