Jones Co. (WDAM)- The weather may seem much nicer than normal throughout the Pine Belt, but the conditions are making brush fires spark up in Jones county.
At least three brush fires have already been reported in Jones county this week. Higher than normal winds and temperatures still in the mid nineties are creating favorable conditions for fires to start. Although weather conditions may seem pleasant with the unseasonably low humidity for the area, Jones county fire coordinator, Dan McKenna alerts residents keep a watchful eye on grassy areas, especially if planning to burn anything.
He says, "The humidity has been extremely low and we've had no rain this month. That's just conducive to the fire conditions we're experiencing in Jones county lately."
If the dry conditions persist, McKenna says a burn ban will likely be issued for Jones county.
