MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The suicides of a high school couple have left the Marion County community grieving.

Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall said the young man took his own life Tuesday morning. The 16 year old male was found in his father's front yard in Kokomo around 7:30 a.m.

Sheriff Hall says, "Upon the units arriving there they did go out and found the young man laying in the yard of the residence there. He had taken his own life with a weapon."

Hall said around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon his officer received a 9-1-1 call that a young lady shot herself in an office at Joe Holmes Grocery on Highway 98.

He said, "Deputies entered what they call the office area of the store where you notice a young female had taken her life. Upon investigation there was a weapon found and it was determined that she was dead on the scene."

According to family members both teens left a note. The male victim reportedly left a note inside his home, while the girl's note was allegedly found next to her body.

Both students attended West Marion High School.

School officials say counselor are on hand to assist students through this grieving process.

Hall says the case remains open because something unknown lead to the death of two promising teens.
