Pine Belt remembers 911

PINE BELT (WDAM) - The Pine Belt is joining the rest of the nation in remembering the 9th anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks. In Hattiesburg, firefighters, police officers and city leaders gathered with citizens this morning to mourn the victims and praise the heros of 911.

A ceremony at the twin tower monument on North Main Street featured a laying of a wreath, a 21-gun salute and the ringing of 2 for each of the planes that crashed into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center.

Also in the Hub City, the Hattiesburg 9-12 Project hosted a "Remembrance and Candlelight Prayer Service" at Town Square Park. The event was held to remember the families of the victims killed in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

And in Laurel, a ceremony at the #1 Fire Station also remembered the victims and heros of 911. Firefighters gathered with local residents to pray for the families of those victims.

Nearly 3 dozen white doves were also released.
