HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - The drill team plus the varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders of Presbyterian Christian High School in Hattiesburg are all triple A state champions within the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.  Ivey Swan is a senior varsity cheerleader.

"It's just proven how much talent we really do have at our school even though it's such a small school. And all of our teams have come such a long way and it's just exciting for all of us to be state champs," said Swan.

The young ladies competed for the state title Wednesday in Jackson. Harley Felsher is a member of the school's drill team.

"Oh it's so exciting because we are all really close friends and we've all gotten to know each other a little bit better," said Felsher.

This is the first time Presbyterian Christian High School has swept the awards in three categories. Additionally, two varsity cheerleaders including Ivey Swan were named all stars during an individual competition.

Swan said, "We had to perform a dance and a cheer and we had to do jumps and things like that. And it was really nerve wracking, but I'm really glad that it came out the way that it did."

On Friday, all three teams exhibited their award winning moves during a football game pep rally. The young ladies said they hoped to repeat the sweep again next year.

The Mississippi All-Stars wrapped up its third practice at Hattiesburg High school ahead of the 31st Mississippi/Alabama All-star game on Saturday at noon. Although Saturday’s contest at Southern Miss’ M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg is just an exhibition, the Mississippi players are taking it seriously.
