Evelyn Gandy Parkway expansion continues

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Evelyn Gandy Parkway may be in its final stage of construction but the final phase will have Petal residents in for a long haul.

Petal Mayor Hal Marx says the construction to make the parkway four lanes from the city limits to Interstate 59 may create more congestion before it is finished.

Now, workers are cutting trees and clearing the sides of the Parkway up to two miles past Petal High School. The finished product will include more traffic lights and better access to businesses. Mayor Marx is asking residents to be patient.

"The schedule is that this is going to be a project that will take about two years. So, it is going to be a slow process but if people will be patient I think the results will be worth it once they finish," said Marx.

The construction ends at the intersections of Highway 42, Macedonia and Sunrise roads.
