Local Hattiesburg restaurant celebrates labor day

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Labor day is about working people and especially about those who have to work on Labor Day.

And for the firemen at Station Six Fire Department in Hattiesburg, Olive Garden's General Manager Mahomad Hourchi gave them a special lunch in honor of their labor.

"Today, we are doing a hospitaliano visit to honor all the hard working people. This is something that we do on a yearly basis. Today, we decided to feed people who are laboring on Labor Day, " said Hourchi.

Captain Brady Ingram says that the lunch was greatly appreciated and it lets him know that some people still remember the true meaning of labor day.

"Labor day was set forth years ago to have an opportunity to thank the employees for working throughout the year, and get the day off. Of course it is expected now, but we are here to serve the public even when they're off having their times with their families, " said Captain Ingram.

Lieutenant Saucier says that he doesn't mind working while most families are having their last summer outing, because for him it is just time spent with a different kind of family.

"We are here together. We are missing time with our families, but we are with our work family. So, it is still kind of the same," said Lieutenant Saucier.

The firemen worked on labor day, but at least they had a delicious thank you for their dedicated service.

Winter months are some of the busiest for firefighters, and not just because of the cold temperatures. “This time of the year, December, January and February, statistically nationwide we have more structure fires than any other point in the year,” said Hattiesburg Fire Marshal Stephen Mooney. In the recent weeks, Hattiesburg firefighters responded to five house fires, with the latest one on Monday, being caused by an extension cord. “Extension cords are a hug...
