Cartlidge honored at Longleaf Trace celebration

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - One of the founders of the Longleaf Trace Rails-to-Trails in Hattiesburg was honored during an anniversary celebration of the recreational trail today. Current Rails-to-Trails Board of Directors President Lynn Cartlidge was on hand for an unveiling of the new gateway sign at Southern Miss that bears his name.

The unveiling took place during the 10th anniversary commemoration of the opening of the Longleaf Trace. Cartlidge was instrumental in helping to develop the trail from a former abandoned Illinois Central Gulf railroad line.

Trail manager Herlon Pierce says several new projects at the Longleaf Trace are ongoing, including the addition of 45 new parking spaces at the Cartlidge Gateway and the extension of the trail to downtown Hattiesburg.
