HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - At Grace Christian Elementary School in Hattiesburg Wednesday, dozens of students were recognized for their excellent performance on state tests.

To honor their achievement, school officials and Mayor Johnny DuPree presented each student with a certificate for their high math and language arts scores.

Students that scored high in both subjects also received a trophy. The assembly featured children in grades fourth through the sixth. Last year, these young people took the Mississippi curriculum test known as the MCT II. Debra Large is the Principal at Grace Christian Elementary School.

"It's all about expectations for our children, involving them and engaging them in their education," said Large.

Parents were also invited to the assembly to help their children celebrate their accomplishments.
