Crimestoppers ups the ante for escaped inmate

Metro Crime Stoppers, the Hattiesburg Police Department, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) are offering a $1,000 cash (tax free)  reward for anonymous tips leading to the capture of a fugitive who recently escaped from the Forrest County Work Center in Hattiesburg.   MDOC officials, as well as local authorities, are looking for inmate Paul Pettis (38 years old).

Pettis is also one of ten suspects connected to the Hattiesburg Police Department break in last week.

"We increased the amount because Pettis is wanted for such a long list of crimes, and we want him off the streets so he's not a danger to anyone or their personal property." says Diane James, Coordinator for Metro Crime Stoppers.

"Pettis is obviously a career criminal, but we hope to put him into permanent retirement with help and tips from the public." says James. "Our tip line is open twenty-four-seven to take your call."

Authorities say Pettis was last seen in custody on Monday morning in Hattiesburg.  Pettis is described as an African American male, 5'1" tall, 130 pounds, with brown eyes.  He has tattoos of two whales, a Chinese symbol, and a tattoo of a "sun" on his stomach area.  Authorities say Pettis was last seen wearing his state issued green and white striped pants, and his white MDOC short.  MDOC officials say Pettis is wanted on burglary and escape charges.  Pettis is to be considered armed and dangerous.
