HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - William Carey University began the new year Monday with a fall convocation that prepared both the mind and spirit for the start of classes.

The annual ceremony introduced new students, faculty, and recognized the entire campus community including the one hundred ten students in the University's new College of Osteopathic Medicine.

William Carey is celebrating record enrollment this year. President Tommy King says the University currently has over 36-hundred students, which represents a twelve percent increase over last year.

The convocation emphasized William Carey's role as a Christian University and what that means for the educational experience of students. Ned Miller is a first year medical student at William Carey University.

Miller said, "From my perspective and the medical students perspective we have a hard year ahead of us and these sort of enriching meetings, it's sort of food for the soul."

The University is also welcoming a new higher education degree program this year that has attracted over fifty students.
